What Is TRC20? The TRON Token Standard Explained
TRC20 is a technical standard on the TRON blockchain that defines how fungible tokens are created and transferred. Similar to Ethereum's ERC-20, TRC20 provides a common interface so that every token built on TRON behaves consistently across wallets, exchanges, and decentralized applications.
The TRC20 standard was introduced when TRON launched its mainnet in May 2018. It allows developers to create custom tokens by deploying a smart contract on the TRON Virtual Machine (TVM) that follows TRC20 rules. That token instantly becomes compatible with every TRON-supporting wallet and exchange. Every TRC20 token must implement: totalSupply, balanceOf, transfer, approve, allowance, and transferFrom. These six functions form the core of the TRC20 interface and guarantee interoperability across the entire TRON ecosystem.

When selecting a wallet for TRC20 tokens, ensure it explicitly supports the TRON blockchain, as some wallets only support Ethereum-based (ERC-20) tokens.
